We conduct verbal checks on a minimum of two professional references. We prefer verbal references over written references because it allows us to ask additional probing questions should a reference’s responses provoke further interest or lead us to an insightful line of questioning.
Written references tend to be rigid and do not provide additional context outside the questions provided. Each candidate has unique skills and experience, with verbal reference checks allowing our human resource professional to gain greater insight into a candidate.
Verifying the qualifications and certifications, including any majors, graduation year and institution, is critical to understanding our candidates’ knowledge. The benefits of this are two-fold. It ensures the candidate possesses the qualifications they claim and provides greater insight into their knowledge and expertise that can often be missed.
Employers are obliged to ensure their staff have the appropriate Australian working rights; failure to do so can result in penalties. We work with the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC), Equifax and the Department of Home Affairs Visa Entitlement Verification system (VEVO) to verify identification and, if necessary, VISA entitlements to ensure appropriate working rights for our candidates.
A Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check forms a critical component of our screening process to understand the background of our candidates. Identity theft, data misuse, fraud and other criminal activities occur in the workplace and are rarely performed by first-time offenders. This check offers peace of mind and underwrites the recruitment decision.
These checks are conducted by an Accredited Body with the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC).
Another mechanism to understand our candidates is to check social media and online presence. While LinkedIn is designed as a professional social media platform, other social media accounts, such as Facebook and Twitter, provide additional information.
As a final check, we interview our candidates to verify information, fill gaps, build their profiles, create videos, and ultimately understand them to the best of our ability. We also take the time to understand what they are looking for in a career and employer to help find the best possible match. This is the final verification step before we present them to you as a job-ready candidate.
